9-11 November 2018

Camp Robert L. Boucher, Ephrata WA

Training this weekend will be offered in 5 different areas: Squadron Leadership School for senior members, Basic Cadet School for our newest cadet members, Model Rocketry for all cadets, Ground Navigation for all working towards their Ground Team ratings in Emergency Services, and WAMA 101 for members new to WAMA who are not sure which area interests them the most. Seniors should feel free to sign up for WAMA 101 also. We also plan to squeeze in ICUT and MSA training for those who need these qualifications. Free time is available on Saturday evening to socialize, play games, or do homework.

Here are the details.

AE- Model Rocketry class will cover all the requirements for attaining the Model Rocketry Badge. Lt Col Ken Butler will be instructing with help from others to ensure that all areas are covered. Students will build and launch 3 rockets as well as cover the knowledge requirements for the badge. Due to the materials needed and the cost of the Rocketry Badge, there is an additional cost of $20 for this class. (There is an opportunity for a limited number of cadets who have already earned the rocketry badge to assist. The hours they serve could count toward award of the new STEM Badge. Prior permission is required before assistants may register. Contact Lt Col Butler directly at Kenneth.butler@wawg.cap.gov. They would not have to pay the extra cost.) Class is open to cadets of all ranks but is limited to the first 25 students to register. THIS CLASS WILL FILL QUICKLY!

CPBasic Cadet School (BCS) provides the newer cadets who have not yet attended a wing activity with a better understanding of the Civil Air Patrol cadet program. Cadets will receive a solid foundation of drill and memory work, uniforms, CAP mission as well as an understanding of cadet responsibilities. BCS is the first course in the PCR Integrated Leadership Program and is aimed at C/Basics to C/SRAs. Teamwork will be stressed and team leadership problems will test the ability of all to work together. This class will supplement the training obtained at the local squadron and help prepare cadets to attend wing activities such as the Fall Conference and winter encampment. Uniform is ABU/BDUs but students should also bring blues if they have them. Class is limited to 20 students.

ES – Lt Col Karl Moore will give instruction for GTM-3 and on MSA ratings. Students will need to arrive with endorsements from their commanders on their SQTRs for the training to be credited. Bringing field gear is optional but bringing warm clothing/coats is seriously recommended. Training will be given on ground navigation using a map and compass as well as GPS. Teams will then head outside for some practical experience. Later at night, celestial navigation is a possibility. Class is limited to 20 students.

WAMA 101 – This class is an introduction to WAMA for members (cadets and seniors) who would like to experience all areas of the academy. It will include an introduction to Emergency Services, Aerospace Education, and Cadet Programs by accomplishing hands on activities. Students will become familiar with the history of the Ephrata Army Air Base and WAMA, as well as participate in O’flights (weather permitting). Training may also be given in Mission Staff Assistant if time is available. Class is limited to 10 students.

SLS- Squadron Leadership School – (for senior members only) Please see the announcement below or contact Maj Jim Kelly, the Director, at Jim.Kelly@wawg.cap.gov for more information.
